SANTA FE, N.M., Oct 27 (Reuters) - Actor Alec Baldwin fired a 45 caliber Colt pistol loaded with a live lead bullet in last week's accidental fatal shooting on the New Mexico set of his movie "Rust" where filmmakers showed "complacency" toward safety, authorities said on Wednesday.

Old, fat Alec Baldwin doing a western movie sounds really boring. Yawn. I hope he gets manslaughter charges at the very least. Idiot.

The gun did not fire the shot. Baldwin fired the shot. Guns are inanimate objects unable to fire themselves.

You are correct. Journalist’s obviously have little understanding of guns period. They call blued guns “black guns” and nickel plated or stainless steel pistols “silver guns.”

As you noted, they have been converting cap and ball revolvers to cartridge for movies for at least 80 years. Colt Dragoons are rarely seen in film because they were big heavy horse pistols, meant to be carried in holsters slung across a saddle and in the real Old West hardly ever carried in a belt holster. The only one that comes to mind is the “Dragoon” seen in John Wayne’s “True Grit” which was actually a converted 1847 Colt Walker.

I would guess if it was a cap and ball conversion that Baldwin fired, it was either an 1860 .44 Colt Army or an 1858 .44 Remington converted to fire a .45 cal cartridge. Both Pietta and Uberti of Italy make modern replicas of them.

Those damn live bullets. They just jump out of a gun and zoom across the room by themselves.

Typically BLANKS are used. No projectile sitting inside the brass case. Ignited gunpowder goes boom.

What if Baldwin had full intent in shooting Halyna Hutchins? He could have taken the gun from assistant director Dave Halls, acted like he was checking the cylinders and slipped in a live round and took out one of the dummies. What purpose did he have even pointing the gun at Hutchins? He was supposed to be innocent of the live round discharge because the gun was supposed to be checked. Well, he was the last one in the chain of custody. I think the police have suspicions and it reflected in the so many questions not answered.

“The weapon fired.” right. It just “fired”. All on its lonesome.

I don’t think I’d ever work with Baldwin again (if I was in the industry)

“live bullet”...really? None of the ammunition I have ever owned, seen, or used has been “live.” All have been inert, never live, as in “alive.” Munitions are things. They do not live. As Rush frequently said, “Words mean things.”

And the AD declared the gun to be “cold” - no live ammunition.
