“If this is true, and I heard the same report yesterday, I believe someone used an insufficient or defective powder charge creating a “squib round” condition. (This is when the round (projectile/bullet) is only propelled partway through the barrel and lodges there.)”

They reload casings on the set? With round bullets?

Baldwin blasted the cinematographer with a real bullet. Not a blank. The slug went through her chest and hit the director who was standing behind her.

(Assuming you're not being facetious ;^)) No. The term “round” in this context is slang used to refer to the bullet or projectile or sometimes the entire loaded cartridge; such as, “firing a round downrange”

It’s not clear yet, but I’ve seen a few hints that the gun used was a cap and ball, like an 1865 Colt. Many guns of the civil war era were basically black powder guns that were hand loaded and used percussion caps. So there are no ‘cartridges’. Every load is by hand.

This would also explain the comments about recent misfires, not so common with cartridges, but very common in black powder. It may explain how the gun was still loaded after a previous shooting session with live rounds, as unloading is not as easy, or obvious, as removing a cartridge.
