While I have temporary internet/WiFi service, checking in with y’all. Husband and I have been in SW VA since last Monday to help with 87-year-old MIL who was diagnosed a couple of months ago with a form of bone cancer and started radiation and chemo. Too many bad side effects so stopped. Husband just called to say she is being admitted to hospital for dehydration and as yet undetermined infection. I think of this thread often…❤️

We don’t usually eat at the table either. I can’t say it’s from childhood memories, though. More likely from habits acquired in adulthood, as singles living alone. Hubby always eats on a TV tray and watches a movie with headphones on. I sit in front of my computer with my plate in my lap and my legs up.
The table is only for when company comes. It’s in the dining room. Ironic, because it’s the same kitchen table from my childhood that I somehow wound up with, back when my parents were still alive and shipped it down to me with some other stuff I had stored at their house.

It’s amazing how we all had such different upbringings in similar eras, but different parts of the country. I’m lucky I was raised relatively free of sexual stereotypes, because that would have made things much harder. I don’t have a domestic bone in my body. My younger brother and I were pretty much free to pursue our interests, except that being the black sheep, I got laughed at by our dad, who thought I’d never be able to earn a living. My brother has multiple degrees and had an engineering career, I became a college dropout in short order, and traveled far away at first to pursue my dreams. I never envied my brother, even though he made more money than I did. I always thought my life was far more interesting.
