"Stairway to Heaven, but as if Mark Knopfler had written it. 1:24 video here.
Youtube text:
"I tried to incorporate a lot of Knopfler's playing style. The double stops, the raking, hammer-ons, and the iconic, wild vibrato bends.
Had a lot of fun making the backing track for this. For the drums I looked a little at the beat from 'Once upon a time in the West' by Dire Straits, to get a Dire Straits vibe for the song, instead of copying the beat from the original Stairway to Heaven."
Why’s a guy who plays that well playing a Squier? (It does sound good, though.)
There is no doubt that SRV was influenced by his predecessors. He openly acknowledged that in his cover songs. But SRV also put his own flavor on it. He was an incredible talent and turned into a great showman too. I was a fan of Bowie’s Let’s Dance LP long before I knew that SRV was the studio guitarist.
"SRV copied Albert King more than Hendrix by far."
Prolly' could stick a few other names there, too.
All that talent and couldn't carve out his "own" style.
Which really shows how hard it must be to be truly unique in music.
I noticed that. But it sort of proves a point. Rich or poor, just play baby!
Add Carlos Santana to your list as well.
I heard some Jimi in there too.
Zappa’s solos were like snowflakes, no two were ever alike.
Now, that’s some great guitar picking!
Who is the guitarist copying the Knopfler sound? He’s very good. I overlooked Dire Straits for many years and only lately have become. Mark Knopfler fan, along with Chris Rea whom I had never heard of.
I never knew that!
This High Hopes?
That is just wrong...
True. Though, some Squiers can be set up to be pretty good gigging axes. Better for a dive-bar gig than your pre-CBS Strat...
Done.
Thanks for posting that…fantastic! Loved the LA Roller Girls too.
Oh yeah. Listen to it when you get a chance. It’s a great album. And now knowing it’s SRV playing guitar it’s unmistakable.
Here is the same guy doing Sultans of Swing ala Pink Floyd.

A lot of Third World people play on lower end musical instruments.
Rick Beato may be the one who initiated the “reimagining” of the Stairway solo with these videos?
