Wow, remember Billy Thorpe?
For some reason, several months ago, I thought of this song and had to come home and look it up to hear it again.
Not even played on the “oldies” stations anymore.
:D
The Midnight Special and Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert.
Roger Dean was the Boris Vallejo of the rock album world.
:D
NOTHING?! Dark Side of the Moon, Quadrophenia, Houses of the Holy and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. And that’s just 1973. The 70s were awesome. Everybody obsesses on disco but totally forget that was the end of the 70s. The early 70s was the era of good prog, the rev up of metal and great exploration. Fragile, Larks Tongues, Paranoid, Funkadelic, Parliament. The 70s were the greatest decade.
I still love Ode to Billy Joe.
Great song and I confess to liking Angie, Baby even though it’s a weird concept.
:D
You would likely love my iPod playlists.
:)
I agree.
This is a rather shocking thread.
All music threads these days are dominated by the pissers and moaners. We got a lot of “too cool to admit they experience joy” on FR these days. Your name reminds me I was gonna mention Aqualung and Thick as a Brick. 70s rule.
You get bonus points with me, for knowing “Salamander”.
:)
And you’re right.
Emotional vampires abound and suck all the joy out of everything.
Some of the artists from the 1960s best work was made in the 1970s...for example, Bob Dylan's Blood on the Tracks was recorded in 1975.
Oooh. My hands down favorite Dylan record. Yeah, there were a lot of “figuring it out” peak performances from 60s survivors.
RE: Billy Thorpe - “Children of the Sun”
I remember it. A great piece of music. Those were my high school days.
I loved the artwork on the album covers in the 70’s. In the late 70’s, we wore “concert t-shirts” screen-printed with the artwork from our favorite bands. Wish I still had those t-shirts as keepsakes.
I never knew Hubert Laws and was in my prime in the 70s. Enjoyed the song you attached. Thanks.

Between the 2 decades of the 60’s and 70’s the music world was in it’s prime. I haven’t yet gone thru this list but I can tell you I forgot the names of more bands that had great releases than there are current bands with great releases...from the era of rap I the 90’s to today.
