Raiders owner Mark Davis said last week that the email about Smith was ``disturbing and not what the Raiders stand for'' and said the team was reviewing the additional emails.

Davis reportedly continued, saying, "Yeah, the Raiders stand for cheap hits, drugs and murder. We will not tolerate normal, heterosexual men who use strong language."

He works for the Raiders, not the NFL - and the Raiders apparently canned him. Apparently some of the emails were "homophobic" in nature. It'd be interesting to find out how Gruden's emails were made known to the NFL, let alone the NY Times.

Yes, but at the time Gruden was not an NFL coach. So why were his emails discoverable? He sent them to an NFL employee?

He sent them to Bruce Allen, a friend and former Raiders exec, who was Washington's GM at the time.

Bruce Allen was at WFT from 2010 - 2019, but he was an executive at the Raiders, before and during Gruden’s entire tenure in Oakland, so there relationship goes back to the 90s.
