Don't know if this is it, but it gives a October 1917 date for the start of the outbreak in Iran.

This researcher thinks it was here, in Haskel County KS (sw of Dodge City,) and from there, to Ft Riley KS and the European trenches.

(My thought is that it could also have been the pneumonic form of bubonic plague in Haskel co and not flu. (Prairie Dogs and Ferrets are carriers.)
