Stick to guitars, Josh. .223 is smaller than 00 buck. But it has a lot more velocity and therefore energy behind it than the buckshot does. And rifle rounds are optimized for ballistic efficiency. They’re pointed in the front and have boat-tail bases. They are also usually copper jacketed as well. 00 buckshot isn’t. If you see overpenetration it’s going to be the rifle round.

Actually, I read an FBI report a few years ago that said a small 223 round was less likely to over-penetrate than 00 buckshot.
