A shocking new poll from the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia reveals that over half of Trump voters surveyed, and 41% of Biden voters, are in favor of blue and/or red states seceding from the union. Yeah, it’s gotten that bad.
The idea that the nation’s political divide has become so toxic that we should prepare from some sort of “national divorce” has largely been left to clever thought experiments best left for dinner parties and ironically detached columns. However, we’ve now arrived at a point where more than half of Trump voters “somewhat agree” that the time for secession is nigh.
From the Center for Politics report:
Significant numbers of both Trump and Biden voters show a willingness to consider violating democratic tendencies and norms if needed to serve their priorities. Roughly 2 in 10 Trump and Biden voters strongly agree it would be better if a “President could take needed actions without being constrained by Congress or courts,” and roughly 4 in 10 (41%) of Biden and half (52%) of Trump voters at least somewhat agree that it’s time to split the country, favoring blue/red states seceding from the union.
The report continues by examining the broad political dissolution felt by members of both parties (emphasis mine.):
— On one hand, roughly 80% of Trump and Biden voters view democracy as preferable to any non-democratic kind of government.
— On the other hand, more than 6 in 10 Trump and Biden voters see America as less a representative democracy and more a system that is run by and rigged for the benefit of the wealthy.
— Overall, more than two-thirds support — and one-third strongly — emboldening and empowering strong leaders and taking the law into their own hands when it comes to dealing with people or groups they view as dangerous.
— And their willingness to consider violating democratic tendencies and norms extends beyond the hypothetical and to a dangerous and alarming finding: Roughly 2 in 10 Trump and Biden voters — or more than 31 million Americans — strongly agree it would be better if a “President could take needed actions without being constrained by Congress or courts” (as extrapolated from the results of this survey). Roughly 4 in 10 (41%) of Biden and half (52%) of Trump voters at least somewhat agree that it’s time to split the country, favoring blue/red states seceding from the union.
A shocking YouGov poll in June found that 66% of Republicans in southern states want to secede from the United States. That survey, which was done in conjunction with BrightLineWatch, looked at the current political climate in America. The most stunning question concerned support or opposition for the state in which respondents lived in “seceding from the United States to join a new union with [list of states in new union]?”
President Joe Biden largely ran on a platform of reunification, and despite an effective six first months of largely positive approval ratings, recent missteps in Afghanistan, and a resurgence of Covid infections, which is — ironically, largely due to a large percentage of Trump supporters refusal to get a vaccine — have led to his approval being underwater.
No it does not have to be contiguous. It is more convenient but it is not necessary.
A cat that jumps up onto a hot stove will never jump up onto a stove ever again.
But sometimes there are yummy things up there on that stove, and it takes some skillful intelligence gathering to find out that the stove ain’t hot any more.
I believe the secession stove is no longer hot.
I used a folding one for a while. Nice and rugged, made out of metal. But when I upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy, they did not support it, which is quite the violation of the Bluetooth spec on the part of Samsung. I reported the violation to the Bluetooth Special Interest Group but nothing came of it.
In other words, on a county by county basis.

Consider doing your posts verbally onto an audio file, then post the URL for the response.
I see a lot of people speaking into their phones now. I wouldn’t use it but it seems like the right thing for folks like you.
thanks, i may try the keyboard- i don’t think i could get used to speaking to a computer lol- I tried it on phone messaging for a little bit, but it kept getting words wrong- I guess cuz i didn’t speak them clearly enough- maybe my NE accent throws it off lol
To be the land of the free we MUST once again be the home of the brave.

I think it’s the reverse. They hate US with a visceral hatred and most of us were clueless about it. Now it’s too late to counter their hatred, they have taken the reins. Time to jump off this runaway stagecoach.
Yes.
Belling the cat. Good idea.

Yup, just like the band of rag-tag colonists did against the greatest military power on earth in 1776.
They didn’t bell the cat, they fought against the cat and kicked its ass.
“As you note, there is no procedure for states to leave the union.”
Actually, one indisputably legal way to secede would be to amend the Constitution to explicitly allow it. That would require a convention, since Congress would never go for it.
Personally, I think just discussing the issue creates some political leverage.
Short of secession, states could refuse to participate or cooperate in any federal activities. There are nowhere enough federal cops to enforce the law absent cooperation from state and local law enforcement. And it would be hard to enforce the federal tax laws without county clerks helping with tax liens and foreclosures.
You misunderstand what I’m proposing. NOT speaking into a phone to have it TRANSCRIBED, but speak into the phone to have the AUDIO file uploaded so that your tone and intentions are almost fully captured.
Yup
ah- nope- my sarcastic tone is too volatile much of the time-
So, the Red States will eliminate public schooling?
***If that’s what they WANT to do. I sincerely doubt it. I think they’d implement a voucher program lickety split.
We could make the school boards get actual productive jobs.
***I would favor term limits for any elected position that ‘represents’ more than... say... 50,000 people.
Why not start with that, now?
***Feel free. I don’t think there’s enough critical mass but I have been incorrect before. And this virus thing has changed a lot of people’s minds about home-schooling and distance learning. What exactly IS the value of putting all those kids into one room? Mostly it’s just babysitting and aiming for the common denominator — the most ADHD kid gets the most attention from the teacher.
oh hell
I mean aw well, all is well, owl,
dammit: OH WELL
Say this 3 times fast with an Irish accent:
Whale
Oil
Beef
Hooked
Then, as now, Patriots were in the minority. Most were “Loyalists” in the colonies acquiescing to England and afraid of their power.
Patriots then had about as much chance of winning as we do now against the gargantuan Left. But what patriots counted on then and what Patriots MUST count on today is the helping Hand of the Divine Providence of the Lord God Almighty to win.
And then, as now, there were no guarantees, and every signer of the Declaration of Independence were very aware they may very well be signing their death warrant.
Where is that love for freedom today and willingness to risk lives and fortunes to gain/maintain freedom?
Patriots today face no such threat of death (yet). As then, we are calling for an impossible task, but with a firm faith in Divine Providence. If that’s “belling the cat” so be it.
But try not to be too discouraging to those who are not willing to surrender their precious freedom without a fight (to the death if necessary).
Just look at Washington, Oregon, Nevada and California. There’s be nothing left of them.
Liberals like to say that without the money from the cities the rural areas would die. Where do the city folks get their tomatoes and bacon from?
The only liberals that would be allowed in would the hot women and their kids. The hot women for obvious reasons. And their kids can be taught to be normal.
