“I don’t know, man,” Hendrix said on his decision to play the track before adding, “I’m an American, so I played it. They made me sing it in school, so it was a flashback.” Cavett then points out that Hendrix is likely to find himself on the receiving end of a barrage of hate mail because of his decision to cover the national anthem in an unorthodox manner, to which Hendrix proudly stated, “It’s not unorthodox, I thought it was beautiful.”
Jimi may not have been a fan of the war, but he didn't hate America.
Jimi was an staunch anti-Communist, he didn’t overtly support the war, but he certainly was no fan of the North Vietnamese.
ok thanks- i was going by what i heard years ago as they described the sounds and commented it was a ‘flurry of disturbing noises like one would hear in war’ which they attributed to being a war protest song- Good to hear Jimmie’s own words abotu it
I didn’t say though he hated America-
and i absolutely agree with Jimmie that the rendering of it was beautiful- one of my favorites of his-
I would say this, he wouldn’t try to pin Vietnam on Nixon, and ignore LBJ’s role, like Neil Young did.
