The tilting on San Francisco's Millennium Tower is causing a plumbing problem
SF Gate ^ | 24 Sept 2021 | Andrew Chamings

A new problem may be bubbling up for residents of the lurching Millennium Tower in downtown San Francisco.

The building's tilt — now about 22 inches to the west due to the northwest corner sinking about 18 inches — may be causing lateral sewage pipes to not drain correctly and has already resulted in “some plugging” on the third floor

In the email from Hamburger, obtained by NBC, the engineer told the city that “sewer lines must slope (minimum of 1/8” per foot) to enable efficient flow of material,” and that at-risk drains “will experience decreased slope and may become a problem.” He added that third floors drains that have seen plugging must be “maintained with periodic chemical flushing.”

Will the units on the 'high' side with functional drains increase in value?

Shite runs downhill!

Why not cut the columns on the low side and pound in some wedges until plumb and weld over?

Add a skosh for settling?

There may be a bright side to this. In 50 years, it will be a wonder of the world dwarfing the Leaning Tower of Piza. Or, not.

I believe I read that the building cost $280M to construct and that the initial solution -an outboard foundation driven to the correct depth and then attached to the exiting foundation was going to cost $200M. Imagine the headache for the developer! Imagine the bloody litigation among insurance companies!

Also imagine that just before they attach the outboard structure, the big one strikes SF and that mofo topples. Oy!

I wouldn't worry about it. That would only be a concern if it was in an area known for earthquakes. It's probably as safe from falling as a south Florida condo.

They’ve gone from low flow toilets to no flow toilets.

Or - as we used to say in the dorm - flush twice, it’s a long way to the cafeteria.

I wonder if we can expect to see Lot’s wife standing there? 😊😀

—” Imagine the bloody litigation among insurance companies!”

And in particular, the team that was involved with the structural designers E&O insurance.

They are purchasing tents, sleeping bags, and making maps of street corners that are available that they like.
Also many had boating accidents and lost most of the family variables?

PAR35, your astute comments have reassured me on SF building construction.

As safe as a South Florida condo ...

Why, I think I will invest my retirement in big city office space, and I heard that these horrible rumors are just to drive down the cost of investing in this building.

Well, I sure know a (good) deal when I see one!

—”I wonder how much it costs to implode this building?”

They already have massive sunk costs and will do almost anything to avoid an implosion.

With the right connections, they could sell it to the taxpayers for a homeless shelter.
And with government quality maintenance the building will turn into a pile of shite in no time at all.

What kind of IDIOT would live on a Third Floor where their drains go AGAINST the tilt of the building. What did they expect the result to be?

The Pisa campanile began to lean while being constructed, and the construction accounted for the tilt, as much as possible. Still, ...
