Many Saints of Newark’ is a solid two-hour episode of ‘The Sopranos’

Woke up this morning, watched myself a film.

Yes, 14 years after HBO’s groundbreaking drama series “The Sopranos” aired its final episode — controversial to this day — its movie prequel “The Many Saints of Newark” premiered Wednesday in New York.

Fans packed every seat of the Beacon Theatre, and the dress code was “business.” Some ticketholders interpreted that as Tony Soprano-style tracksuits. They must’ve thought the invite said “family business.”

I liked when the boys learned about Vito being a pitcher and not a catcher and Christopher said he was going to cut off his pishadeel and feed it to him

That storyline came out of nowhere. As if somebody pressured Chase into having to include a gay storyline.

A number of the characters had issues not normally associated with Mobsters, Tony seeing a shrink, Vito being gay, Tony’s mother trying to kill him, etc, it made they story interesting

But there was no sign of Vito being gay until the scene where he was caught in the truck. It just seemed to me a bit shoe-horned in.

Let’s take this in the back.

Yeah, that’s what Vito did.

You can go!

Did they have rap music back in the old days?
That alone would keep me from watching!

I always looked at that storyline from the point of view that there is a culture in the mob where it was known that kind of thing went on in prison, but only when you’re in prison, and never outside. “A man has needs when you’re in the can.” to paraphrase what one of them said in the Sopranos. But when you do bring that disgrace to the family on the outside you need to be dealt with. While Tony didn’t know what to do with him, Phil did. And Vito dying with a pool cue up his backside is a pretty good example of how the mob viewed homosexuals.

“But I compromised!”

I thought it was pretty funny that they showed Phil coming out of the closet when they tied down Vito in the hotel.

Very good!

We’re excited to see this once our quarantine is over.

I think they’re more honorable than the Democrats who walk among us, and try to kill us every day.

Charmaine was the second sexiest woman on the show. Valentina was better IMHO.

Worst episodes were Columbus Day and Tony in the coma as a traveling sales executive.

Pine Barrens was my fave episode, even though it was not filmed in the actual pine barrens.

IIRC, that’s Gandolfini in the background. Hopper and Walker were amazing in this scene. One of the most intense I’ve ever seen.
