This is a somewhat unhinged accusation by bored internet housewife sleuths, and NY Post is sacrificing some of their own limited credibility for publishing the story.
Annihilation is a science fiction novel about a female scientist, who is investigating a possible alien anomaly affecting an area around the coastline on earth. Her husband had previously entered the area and had gone missing. It was made into an average movie with Natalie Portman.
