We interrupt your daily “Invisible Touch” listen to share some upsetting news about Phil Collins, who revealed in a new interview that he’s no longer able to play the drums due to deteriorating health. Speaking with BBC Breakfast alongside his Genesis bandmates, Collins confirmed that he won’t be behind the kit for the band’s upcoming The Last Domino? world tour, and that his son, Nic, will be drumming in his place. (Meanwhile, his daughter, Lily, is famously in Paris.) “I’d love to, but you know, I mean, I can barely hold a stick with this hand. So there are certain physical things that get in the way,” Collins explained about his current state. “I’m kind of physically challenged a bit, which is very frustrating because I’d love to be playing up there with my son.” Collins also expressed skepticism that he’ll ever tour again after The Last Domino? concludes its run in December. “We’re all men of our age, and I think to some extent, I think it probably is putting it to bed,” he said. “I think just generally for me, I don’t know if I want to go out on the road anymore.”
Collins has been plagued with serious health issues over the past few years. In 2016, he revealed that he was living with dislocated vertebrae, nerve damage, and foot fractures, which left him feeling like he was walking “on sticks” and impeded his ability to perform. For The Last Domino? tour, Collins will solely be taking on vocal duties for Genesis’s catalogue of hits
But Keith Richards (77) can still play a mean guitar.
Wow. He is practically unrecognizable. Very sad to see, but it happens to all of us, if we’re lucky.
I notice that with older muscians I play with, the first thing that seems to go is the timing.
He was also reportedly one of the best drum tuners in England.
I liked him on Miami Vice
Peter Gabriel or Phil Collins?
“Remember when Phil Collins drowned that guy?”
He also has one of the biggest collections of Alamo memorabilia ever assembled.
Phil the musician knows he is severely disabled at this time.
Phil the pro level performer wants to tour anyway, because he has become used to getting all that immediate love and affection from his audiences. Now he practically requires such regular infusions of applause.
Every top level performer stays that way by having an ego big enough to think they are desperately needed by others.
Paul McCartney is likely to agree.
Thank God.
One of my favorite tunes with Phil would be that
“Tonight, Tonight” song. Love the long intro.
I looked for it quite a long time. Come to find out it was with the group Genesis. But I only wanted THAT song, not the whole album! Then I realized I was too cheap to pay for the entire album anyway.

Makes me think of a great Genesis song:

I have the “Tarzan” soundtrack from 20 years ago - some good Collin’s songs on there
As a huge Genesis fan, frankly at this point, I would just rather go see Steve Hackett than this.
You beat me to it. So sad though. I really love Genesis.
70 is getting up there for playing the drums. I’m 56 and doubt I could play for any length of time or with as much speed as I used to, especially since it’s been 20 years since I played.
And Steven Tyler can still sing.
“Angels never know it’s time, to close the book, and gracefully decline.”

“and before you look...see if you can think of what song it is...”
No need to look. The entering fill is epic but the bass line is my favorite thing in the song.
Neil Peart had to quit, and that was before his cancer.
Proof? In the U.K. he was bashed for being a Tory. I’m not sure that’s true, he’s probably not that political, but he doesn’t like taxes. But I don’t think your aspersian are true.
