New York Gov. Kathy Hochul Signs Law Requiring Zero-Emission Vehicles By 2035

Democratic New York Gov. Kathy Hochul signed legislation Wednesday requiring all new passenger cars and trucks sold in the state to be zero-emissions by 2035.

Under the new law, new off-road vehicles and equipment sold in New York are also targeted to be zero-emissions by 2035, and new medium-duty and heavy-duty vehicles by 2045. The law further requires the state’s Energy Research and Development Authority to create a zero-emissions vehicle development strategy by 2023.

All tied into China now that they got the opportunity to mine all that lithium in Afghanistan.

If the article is correct you will still be able to own and drive any type of car. Only EVs will be sold in NY, what an idiot.

More tax and job erosion, but you can still drive what you want. Car dealerships will pop up right across the state lines.

...and new medium-duty and heavy-duty vehicles by 2045.

Typical liberal/leftist short-sightedness when it comes to unintended consequences. So it's 2035, and you can either pay a premium for that zero emissions car, and start looking for charging stations etc. ... Or you can buy that medium duty truck, that the manufacturers have thoughtfully equipped to have all the features and ride comfort of nice car. Sure, the medium duty truck is big and heavy and gets poor gas mileage. But it is familiar, it avoids all the charging problems you've been hearing about, and then there was the big hack of XYZ's electric vehicles in 2032 that scared everyone...

Prediction - the net effect will be *more* emissions, not less. This will provide incentives to use bigger trucks to avoid the law. Power generation still comes mostly from fossil fuels, so we'll have the reduced efficiencies there of burning, converting, transmitting, converting, storing, utilizing... SMH...

Much like the rental car companies registering in Massachusetts and the trailers registered in Maine, New York is going to see a lot of out-of-state plates.

I can’t help but wonder if Gov. Kathy Hochul also signed a proclamation of some sort requiring some company or individual to invent a battery that can get 300+ miles on a charge and can be recharged 99% in less than a half hour.
Still searching for that particular Eldorado after 120 years.

Zero-Emission Vehicles

No such thing. Unless it's powered by sail or gravity only.

How is NY going to produce the energy to charge all the batteries?

Surely not wind or solar.

What we have now is pretty much zero emission with all the crap they mandated like catalytic converters and DEF systems on trucks

They will not be mining anything unless they are going to pay the billions needed for infrastructure and technology to be able to mine period.

She’s planning lots of nuclear power plants? Windmills on the crest of every mountain and offshore the entire length of Long Island? A solar panel on every roof?

Or just a lot of peasants repairing their old gasoline beaters a la Cuba, until the state turns off the pumps?

As a young man, I lived in apartment buildings that had communal laundry, usually in the basement.

Invariably, some one would leave their wash in the machine for HOURS. Arguments were common!

I can see a similar scenario over charging ports in multi family housing.
