Open defecation worsens cholera outbreak

“Onchocerciasis
Onchocerciasis or River blindness is another study we are doing currently. It’s really interesting because although there has been interventions with Ivermectin but there hasn’t been anything proactive in seeing the effects particularly on the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in Mubi. Interestingly, I realised it actually affects women’s menstrual cycle and fertility. It is amongst the group of what is called Neglected Tropical Diseases so there has not really been a lot of investigations and that’s the new area we are looking into.”
Ha.
“Hehe. Sanitation first:” So, MASS defecation in the water is detrimental to human health? Who would have ever guessed? Personally, I’m shocked to learn this. LOL. Not really.
I have traveled extensively in my life/career.
Poverty-stricken humans very often use water as toilets. It’s convenient. It offers them a twofer. A place to go and a place to clean themselves.
Ironically, it also is a place where they gather to sustain themselves by fishing. Fishing in your toilet is not a great idea.
But, when you’re very very poor you do whatever you have to do. Remember this, next time you see inexpensive seafood from India, Thailand, Vietnam, etc...in your Supermarket.
