When I was a little kid my grandmother bought yeast cakes and made me eat one everyday. They were foil wrapped and about the size of a quarter. I found some online but they are in blocks.
My mom’s parents were from up North and when I stayed with them I ate prunes, grapefruit, boiled eggs and my yeast cake for breakfast. When I stayed with my Chattanooga grandparents I ate biscuits and gravy with sausage, eggs, and bacon. My Chattanooga grandmother said the first thing she did when Mom and Dad got married was to teach her how to “cook real food.” LOL

Biscuits, eggs, and fatback = real breakfast. Not the faux fatback of today, aka, streak o' lean as they call it. Don't know if they had that in TN, maybe it's just a North Carolina thing.
Yuck, not the right kind for eating, that’s baking yeast! gag
