Hochul announces deal to renew N.Y. eviction freeze, secure more rental relief: ‘We have to take this action’
Gov. Hochul announced late Tuesday that she’s summoning legislators for a rare special session to extend New York’s expiring eviction moratorium and allocate more financial relief for renters in a bid to stave off an avalanche of evictions at a time when the coronavirus is resurging in the state.
The special session, set for noon Wednesday in both the state Senate and Assembly, will feature two legislative items to counteract the feared “eviction crisis,” Hochul said from the Capitol in Albany.
First, Hochul said she has reached a deal with Democratic leaders to renew the eviction moratorium — which was set to expire at midnight Tuesday — through Jan. 15, 2022, protecting hundreds of thousands of struggling renters from the possibility of being kicked out of their homes.

yep and no property tax moratorium. I called all my “representative” /s only received a call back from a recently elected pubbie who’s assistant told me he is voting against the moratorium.

Yep. It’s similar to fathers in family court. The lawyers will take on the case knowing full well that they will lose but will take the dad’s money anyway to try and enforce the most basic of so-called court ordered rights (parental time aka visitation, say so over their own children’s schooling, medical, etc) once the mom starts her state sponsored alienation tactics and wallet grab.
Meanwhile the local “child” support agencies get fed kickbacks for highest CS amount ordered and collected. No accountability over what it should be spent on by the biomoms.
Flame suit ON I say this as a once divorced mom who didn’t rake my ex husband over the coals or do an emotional blackmail number.
That’s what I have proposed too to my “representatives” but that wouldn’t fit the demonrat narrative that mom and pop LLs are all Snidely Whiplash rolling in dough whilst the pooooooor victim tenants are barely making it living in obscene conditions.
On a certain LL forum, many former LLs are selling and getting out, especially in BLUE states.
As long as democrats are in charge of things socialism is here to stay.
