I figured it would the latency numbers Starlink promotes would certainly allow VOIP calls with little to no issues...

But the article that started this thread indicates Apple has a future Iphone that will make satellite calls, which means they need a way to broadcast up to a satellite, I can’t imagine Apple would make a big bulky phone like an Iridium to accomplish this which makes it very curious to me how they will get this done...

Apple will use the GlobalStar constellation. Going to be very expensive.

I've used satellite phones frequently in wilderness settings for over 20 years. GlobalStar sucks, but Iridium are outstanding. Very dependable. I don't consider them bulky at all.
