If the answer to both questions is “yes” she should tell her family to go f&^% themselves—permanently.

Well, life moves on eventually, and events change the subject. She should cheerfully not back down, put in their hands any information she thinks they might sneak a peak at eventually, tell them she loves them, do her own thing, and pray for them.

We're talking family here. There are no guarantees of sanity or decorum. Eyes often open up eventually, if you give (panicky) people time and space.
