Politico reports: US Government reported to to be preparing to recommend booster vaccine shots for COVID. Supporting data supposed to be released this week. Officials are still finalizing the details of the booster plan, and the government is not expected to begin offering third shots from Pfizer and Moderna until mid-September at the earliest. The Food and Drug Administration must first authorize the booster shots, and the CDC will need to formally recommend that people get them eight months after completing their initial vaccination round. The plan for now doesn't call for boosters for recipients of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine... "It's a combination of Delta being a particularly nasty variant that's very contagious and the fact that, unsurprisingly, vaccine protection does gradually wane over time," National Institute of Health Director Francis Collins said Tuesday on the Hugh Hewitt Show. "We don't want to wait until it's like, oh, too late."

The Hill reports: 92 percent of LGBTQ+ adults in US have had at least one vaccine shot. LGBTQ+ adults are outpacing the partial vaccination rates among all U.S. adults by nearly 20 percent.

Britain’s medical agency has approved the Moderna coronavirus vaccine for use in children ages 12 and over. It is the second COVID-19 shot authorized in the U.K. for those between ages 12 to 17, after the Pfizer vaccine.

Canada’s largest province of Ontario is pausing all further reopening, will offer third COVID-19 shots to vulnerable populations and require health and education workers to get vaccinated against the virus or take regular tests.

This week, the U.S. is sending 488,370 doses of the Pfizer vaccine to Rwanda. The USA has already gifted over 110 million doses around the World.

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga has officially expanded and extended the nation’s coronavirus state of emergency. About two-thirds of the nation under some form of emergency. Hospitals have been stretched thin and some seriously sick people have been turned away. Tokyo has been the worst hit, with 4,377 new cases recorded on Tuesday (17 Aug).

New Zealand's 5 million people began a strict lockdown Tuesday that will last at least three days after finding one case of coronavirus. New Zealand has detected its first community transmission of the coronavirus in months (in Auckland on 17 Aug).

Alabama’s intensive care units are near capacity amid the state’s surge in COVID-19 cases. The head of the Alabama Hospital Association says the state has 1,562 intensive care unit beds and 1,560 patients needing intensive care Monday. Dr. Don Williamson says that “this is the greatest demand on the ICU system we’ve ever had.” Infections and hospitalization numbers are quickly approaching what they were at the winter peak of the pandemic. Williamson says COVID-19 patients accounted for 48% of Alabama’s ICU patients Monday. He says the overwhelming majority are unvaccinated.

Louisiana reported that it had once again broken a daily record for the number of patients hospitalized for COVID-19. That number stood at 3,012, the first time it had surpassed 3,000.

Tennessee probe finds fired vaccine official mailed herself muzzle despite claims Republicans silenced her. A joint state investigation found that a former top Tennessee vaccine official might have mailed herself the same muzzle she claimed last month to have received as a threat to keep quiet. Records now indicate that the muzzle was paid for by Dr. Michelle Fiscus' own American Express credit card.

Past Delta Peak? Forty-four states are reporting rising coronavirus counts, the lowest total in more than a month, but 38 states again reported rising death tolls, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Past Delta Peak? Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada and Vermont reported lower numbers of new COVID-19 cases in the week ending Monday compared to the week before. Still, Hawaii, Mississippi and Oregon set new case-count records again Monday amid the surge driven by the highly contagious delta variant.

Florida’s largest school district, located in Miami-Dade County, will likely require students to wear face masks when classrooms open next week, following the recommendation of a task force of medical experts and defying Gov. Ron DeSantis’s ban on mandatory masking rules.

UK scientists behind the AstraZeneca Covid jab have given the first trial volunteers a new plague vaccine. The phase-one trial will see at least 40 healthy 18- to 55-year-olds test the vaccine, which uses the same technology as the coronavirus jab (not mRNA - a weakened version of a common-cold virus - adenovirus - from chimpanzees that has been genetically altered so it cannot cause an infection in people.). The same approach could be used for other diseases too. "We've already done clinical trials using similar technology against a bacterium, meningitis B, and a virus, Zika," Oxford Vaccine Group senior clinical researcher Dr Maheshi Ramasamy said. "But we're also looking to develop vaccines against new and emerging diseases such as Lassa fever or the Marburg virus."

WSJ reports "A host of countries in Latin America are (now) inoculating against Covid-19 at a far higher rate (than the USA). The progress in Latin America is built on two factors: In many countries, people are eager to get vaccinated and largely trust vaccines... At the same time, vaccine supply problems are being slowly overcome... With 8% of the globe’s population, Latin America accounts for roughly a third of global deaths"

Back to school preparations have increased the percentage of daily shots going to High School and College age recipients during August.

CNBC reports: "In terms of severity, we have seen some countries suggest that there is increased risk of hospitalization for people who are infected with the delta variant. We haven't seen that translate to increased death," said Maria Van Kerkhove, the WHO's technical lead on Covid-19. People infected with the delta variant "have not died more often than with the other strains," she said. "The prevalence of lambda variant is going down ... and the delta variant is increasing," Van Kerhove said. "The delta variant, everywhere that it's identified it quickly replaces other variants that are circulating." It is spreading into Central and South American countries and is quickly overtaking the lambda variant that is currently dominant in that part of the world.

Retail Sales Slumped in July Amid Delta Variant Concerns and Shipping Delays.

Seattle Times reports: Seven small California counties have recently broken their all-time records for COVID-19 patients in hospital beds, as cases of the delta variant are growing explosively in rural parts of the state. Del Norte, Humboldt, Tuolumne, Nevada, Mendocino, Lake and Amador counties each since the start of this month have recorded their highest daily total for hospitalized COVID-19 patients. A positive PCR test is not a case without symptoms.

Florida is in the thick of it now (from the article you linked):

“On Sunday (15 Aug), the state had a seven-day-average of 30,353 new cases per day, compared with an average of 6,493 one month earlier, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.”

Some of the places where the Delta wave really took off first, like Missouri and Arkansas, now seem to be clearly past peak.

Israel should have used the Moderna vaccine… it’s far more effective against the Delta variant. FACT.

Sorry, Harkonnen. Your credibility is shot. You have no facts. All your previous 'facts' have turned to dust and have been blown away by the wind of reality.

The fall of the vax signifies the fall of House Harkonnen.

Thanks again for data. I’m thinking you will have much to report in cold and flu season ‘proper’ this fall - as the cases of respiratory viruses being up in the summer is an anomaly. I am not sure what the media and ‘scientists’ employed by the government will do when there is normal cold and flu season this fall. I’m not sure with how honest they were with flu last year seeing how it miraculously disappeared. cheers
