I thought that Stanley Kubrick died while making ‘AI’ a film about artificial intelligence which was completed by Spielberg with his insertion of ‘The Greys’ an extension of his ‘Close Encounters’ work.

I could be confused.

Spielberg is a great talent, but Kubrick was of a genius level that very few can ever come close to approaching.

Kubrick is believed to have wanted to expose their secrets through symbology with Eyes Wide Shut. According to one witness - someone on his staff, during his screening with the studio's officials, a massive argument broke out that spilled into the hallway. Eventually, something like a half-hour of the film was cut and not just abandoned, but burned - supposedly the only copy. He died a few days later exactly 666 days before Jan 1, 2001. Of course, his iconic film is "2001 A Space Odyssey". They love their dates.
