Guest on msnbc just said the taliban have “our biometric database” of everyone who worked for US and are using it at checkpoints. When / how did that happen? Was that a massive story at the time or wtf? They used AF as a testing ground for biometrics and this is how it ends up?

IIRC we were using biometrics as ID for a while. Stuff like retinal scans at checkpoints. I thing that the BP is using it still.
I think that we are looking at the beginnings of another Kampuchea...
Initially flush with victory, the Taliban will keep the reprisals quiet. They will happen, we just won’t hear about them because if there are any reporters, they will know to report the “news” or be disappeared.
The Afghan society (what’s left of it) will run on inertia until the infrastructure starts to break down. With many of the engineers, technicians, and the like (who worked for the former regime, and are therefore probably a target), either evacuated, in hiding, or executed, things will start breaking down in short order. No running water, no electricity. In’s hallah.
It is just a matter of time until they will be reduced to near stone-age conditions, except with heavy automatic weapons. Their humvees and other armored vehicles require diesel and maintenance - they are on the verge of having neither.
