I was on my second day on station at Clark AB, Philippines when I heard about it. I still have the Stars and Stripes edition that reported his death.
I need to learn how to post. Dagnabbit. The slides are going backwards 41 to 1 - just fast backwards for continuity:)
God bless
i’m an old man and love Elvis’ music, too!
in fact, listening to Where No One Stands Alone as i write. Side 1, I’ve Got Confidence on vinyl. man what great gospel music on this record.
Bump
I was lucky enough to see him in person twice.
Another dead drug addict.
Not the first. Won’t be the last.
BFD.
I remember where I was when I heard he had died. I was browsing in a store attached to the old Maple Leaf Gardens and the radio was on and the news dropped. The Gardens was an actual venue Elvis had played in 20 years earlier.
As it turns out, my uncle was in Elvis’ tank crew in Germany for a while and hung out with him a lot.
He hinted to me (I was 14 at the time) that he got a lot of Elvis’ “leftovers, hand-me-downs, and cast-offs.”
I remember seeing him on the Ed Sullivan show in 56’, when they did the broadcast from the waist up. The gals in my H/S class were absolutely crazy about him.
