Because he’s a Christian Conservative.

I am reminded when Katherine Harris had a beloved diehard following on here for being a fearless conservative, but the media painted her as a unhinged loose cannon who drove people away in droves.

No doubt some of it was the media piling on her BECAUSE she was conservative and because of her actions in the 2000 election, but given the fact she went thru FOUR campaign managers in her disastrous Senate bid, each of whom abruptly quit and vowed to never work with her again, there was bound to be some truth to her real-life persona being a huge problem regardless of how "good" her political beliefs and actions were.

I remember I met her third campaign manager (after he left her campaign, of course), and asked him privately how much of the "rumors" were true that Harris did goofy stuff like map out all the Starbucks in FL and insist her campaign bus follow that route so she could have a Starbucks every morning and so on. He played pretty coy (and you have to factor in that any EX campaign manager who quit would be biased and have an axe to grind with her), and he told me some...shall we say... interesting antidotes.

With Kirk Camerson, same thing... no doubt the media loathes him BECAUSE he is a Christian conservative (and paints him as a wacko because they don't like his views), but that doesn't change the fact that Growing Pains apparently when thru THREE producers in the show's 7th season, ALL of whom abruptly quit and said Cameron was impossible to work with. By all accounts, the show was in chaotic freefall due to the disarray, and the ratings plummeted by that time. So whether FReepers like it or not, there's most likely actual problems with this guy.

I never watched "Growing Pains" growing up, and I have little interest in doing so. But I am fascinated by all the accounts of the behind-the-scenes drama about what happened behind the camera. It would be interesting to try to piece together what REALLY happened (again, taking into account political bias against Cameron and all the conflicting stories from his friends and enemies). Like Star Trek Discovery, the drama behind the drama is far more interesting than the results we got ON screen.

In both cases, I'd be first in line to see some kind of docudrama "tell all" story.
