I never heard the term “lid” until the Biden presidency.
I wouldn’t put it past Bill to call for a lid.
Imagine FDR doing that. I am NOT saying his changeover to the welfare state and constant increases in the power of government are good. I am just saying he had to run a world war response by the US and get out of a major Depression.
A book about his stamp collecting which I read said he had suitcases of stamps and collecting gear on his trips wherever he went and said "My stamp collecting has saved my life many times over" in all the intense stress and responsibility. He sent thousands of personal letters and envelopes to children with his enormous number of duplicate stamps. One estimate of his personal collection was 1,200,000 stamps. He personally worked on the choice and designs for series of commemoratives with is Postmaster General.
One day his aides messed up and the collection was forgotten. He said "I have this terrific headache" and those were apparently his last words as he died of a cerebrovascular event.
“ Has there ever been a President who “called a lid” on his work day? ”
No, but I believe there have two that smoked a lid on a work day.
