“Yeah, I think everyone was caught by surprise at the extent to which this has collapsed,” Fareed Zakaria noted. “The most important thing to look at in all of this, Jim, is when the Taliban has been taking these cities, Kandahar, Kunduz, Herat, there have been very few casualties. What does that mean? The Afghan army is not actually fighting. It is melting away.”

“That is a 300,000-person army, trained for 20 years with, as you say, tens of billions of dollars of American money with an air force. And it just doesn’t fight. It melts away,” Zakaria added. “Now, that tells you that, you know, that we’ve handled this kind of at a very broad, macro level wrong, which was we tried, we decided that we were going to stabilize Afghanistan by destroying and defeating the Taliban rather than trying to incorporate them. And I say this with the benefit of hindsight.”

This entire Afghanistan episode has simply been a vehicle to train, equip, arm, and weaponize a military force for the taliban. Now that they have our techniques and technology and hardware, they can wage war on the world. They are the cabal’s fighting force.

A city councilman in suburban Los Angeles and five other people were charged for securing fraudulent votes in a runoff election that was ultimately decided by a single vote, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

Compton City Councilman Isaac Galvan, 34, was arrested and arraigned Friday, facing one count of conspiracy to commit election fraud and one count of attempted bribery with intent to influence an election.
Jace Dawson, a 34-year-old former city council candidate; Kimberly Chaouch, 48; Toni Morris, 34; Barry Reed, 61; and Reginald Streeter, 51, were also charged with conspiracy to commit election fraud, prosecutors announced.

The group is accused of perpetrating an alleged conspiracy that prosecutors said led to Galvan’s 855-854 victory over challenger Andre Spicer in June. The scheme involved Chaouch, Morris, Reed, and Streeter registering to vote at Dawson’s Compton address within the city’s District 2 despite living elsewhere, according to the complaint.

There was also an attempt to bribe the register counting votes that night.

Now that they have our techniques and technology and hardware, they can wage war on the world.

It takes more than technique/technology/hardware to be effective. The hardware will work till it breaks. No logistics. They will be what they have always been.

From an article I read:

In the course of the past year, a new belief has emerged in the town: the belief in war against Iraq. That ardent faith was disseminated by a small group of 25 or 30 neoconservatives, almost all of them Jewish, almost all of them intellectuals (a partial list: Richard Perle, Paul Wolfowitz, Douglas Feith, William Kristol, Eliot Abrams, Charles Krauthammer), people who are mutual friends and cultivate one another and are convinced that political ideas are a major driving force of history. They believe that the right political idea entails a fusion of morality and force, human rights and grit. The philosophical underpinnings of the Washington neoconservatives are the writings of Machiavelli, Hobbes and Edmund Burke. They also admire Winston Churchill and the policy pursued by Ronald Reagan. They tend to read reality in terms of the failure of the 1930s (Munich) versus the success of the 1980s (the fall of the Berlin Wall).

Are they wrong? Have they committed an act of folly in leading Washington to Baghdad? They don't think so. They continue to cling to their belief. They are still pretending that everything is more or less fine. That things will work out. Occasionally, though, they seem to break out in a cold sweat. This is no longer an academic exercise, one of them says, we are responsible for what is happening. The ideas we put forward are now affecting the lives of millions of people. So there are moments when you're scared. You say, Hell, we came to help, but maybe we made a mistake.
