“mess” of squirrel = enough for a meal

More deer have been shot here with a 22 than any other caliber, and usually out of season with the shot taken from the cab of a moving truck.

I didn’t believe that until I went coon with hunting my neighbor and saw him shoot coons out of trees that were swaying back and forth with the wind, at night.

They put a fancy sign up about proper hunting here and within a couple of weeks, someone spray painted “Poachers Rule!” over it.

Took me a while to figure out what word my neighbor was saying when he said acorns. akurns = acorns. Being from MA, I used to say car like kaa so...

There’s two kinds of mushrooms, Spring mushrooms and Fall mushrooms.

Yup, some of the farm scenery is awesome. We lived down in Douglas county off of Hwy 60 for a couple of years and saw lots of Amish. I bought my first wood stove from an Amish guy. We wouldn’t have survived one year if it wasn’t for Shetler’s discount grocery that’s owned and operated by Mennonites.

We never did make it to see Laura Ingall’s homes even though we drove through by it plenty of times. One of these days.
