When the governments side with Marxists, what’s the point of Jimmy Bond still running around. Pow pow pow.
But I always had a problem imagining him being a spy when he portrayed Bond as someone who goes out of his way to make sure everybody notices him. That's not spy-ish. A spy blends in either unnoticeably (like Dalton, Craig, and sometimes Moore) or as a harmless buffoon no one would see as a threat (like Lazenby and sometimes Moore did). When I watch those actors play Bond there's part of me that goes "yeah, I could see a real spy acting like that". But being tall, flamboyantly handsome and noticed by everyone immediately always makes it hard for me to take Brosnan or Connery as spies trying to do things under the radar.
precisely- don ‘t give a hoot about ‘inner conflicts’ - just get ot destroying vehicles, and chasing-
Regardless of who played the Bond character Bond never seemed to mind telling the bad guys who he was.
“That’s a Smith and Wesson . . . and you’ve had your six.”
Bond is intense. His life, his job, his psyche all swirl about in a field of tension. He is sensitive, he sees deeply and around corners, with the eye of a hunter.
Connery carried that tension, always just below the surface, the warrior ready for action. Lazenby and Dalton, too. Moore was sorely lacking that quiet and potential menace, he never sold me.
Craig sold me. He’s been pretty good so far.
One of the best lines in movie history.
Casino Royale is still amazing.
He’s the wrong color for future Bonds.
I always figured everyone has two favorite Bonds: Their first and Sean Connery.
The Golden Age of Bond Movies: You Only Live Twice to The Spy Who Loved Me. (Many will disagree, I know.)
And Barbara Bach remains the Best Bond Girl ever. (I ignore that her character was a Commie).
No way! Yeah, there was some bad screenplay in those, but Dalton was the worst Bond, IMO. Never convinced me that he was playing James Bond.
Do you think we’ll ever have another character like “Pussy Galore” ?
I can see it.
It was. Non-stop action, which did not look like fake CG effects (even when it was).
Alotta Fagina.
I liked Craig more than I expected - he doesn’t have that killer sex appeal at first but he grows on you because he seems dangerous - Bond is supposed to be dangerous. Connery wove between sooo sexy, funny and dangerous. He’s still my favorite but Craig does a good job in a slightly different way - more serious.
Good summary. Pierce Brosnan’s time as Bond was marred by terrible story lines, and he is somewhere between Moore and the rest of the pack.
Moore always played Bond the same way he play Simon Templar in “The Saint.”
Don't forget about Walther Matthau
