Amid sagging Covid-19 vaccination rates and stubborn levels of vaccine hesitancy, Dr. Anthony Fauci told CNN on Saturday the United States’ successful campaigns to eradicate smallpox and polio in the last century wouldn’t have succeeded if those vaccines were subject to the same level of misinformation that currently surrounds coronavirus vaccines.

In an interview with CNN, Fauci warned that some unvaccinated adults have been exposed to false information, are often skeptical of objective Covid-19 data and frequently justify their decision not to get vaccinated with “things that are really just not true.”

After anchor Jim Acosta compared the situation to polio, the government’s top infectious disease expert offered a dire warning: Fauci said efforts to eliminate smallpox (which was eradicated worldwide over 40 years ago) and polio (which has been eliminated in almost every country) would have faltered under the current climate of misinformation.

Two separate teams, led by John Kolmer and Maurice Brodie respectively, developed polio vaccines and reported their results at the annual meeting of the American Public Health Association in November 1935. Despite promising results, both were cancelled as a result of the angry reaction from other researchers, as vaccinated children had died in both studies. It would be another 20 years before a successful polio vaccine achieved government licensure.

John Kolmer (1886–1962), of Temple University, presented his findings first. He had developed an attenuated poliovirus vaccine, which he tested in about 10,000 children across much of the United States and Canada. Five of these children died of polio, and 10 more were paralyzed, usually in the arm where the vaccine was injected, in many cases in towns where no polio outbreak had occurred. He had no control group but asserted that many more children would have gotten sick. The response from other researchers was uncharacteristically blunt; one of them directly called Kolmer a murderer.

On April 12, 1955, following the announcement of the success of the polio vaccine trial, Cutter Laboratories became one of several companies that was recommended to be given a license by the United States government to produce Salk's polio vaccine. In anticipation of the demand for vaccine, the companies had already produced stocks of the vaccine and these were issued once the licenses were signed.

In what became known as the Cutter incident, some lots of the Cutter vaccine—despite passing required safety tests—contained live polio virus in what was supposed to be an inactivated-virus vaccine. Cutter withdrew its vaccine from the market on April 27 after vaccine-associated cases were reported.

It took twenty years to develop polio vaccines and some years more for them to be widely used. So it's not surprising people are vaccine-hesitant, especially since Fauci is the face of "science."

The Salk vaccine (dead virus) was given by injection, the Sabin (live virus) vaccine was given on sugar cubes. I remember having a numb arm that summer but it did go away. Years later I saw Dr. Sabin speak at my BIL’s Med School graduation.

However, by now I would think that when an effective vaccine/cure for a serious condition is proven in a trial, then the placebo folks should be given the opportunity to also receive the treatment. If this is not now the case, then some laws need to be enacted.

Wouldn't it be nice to know for certain from our own government types like Fauci. I suspect that they know but don't want to tell us the TRUTH! — yet another lie from the people who are telling us we need to get the jab. “Just trust them.”

How about another conspiracy theory — many here in the states were indirectly complicit in the virus spread and release because it meant that our government officials could twist or even break the election rules and illegally prevent Trump from winning a second term. Heck, I am going out on a limb here: the election computers and software that tallied the ballot counts were intentionally hacked to steal the election in favor of Biden. People were determined to get Trump of office. They tried it with investigation after investigation and two or was it three attempts at impeachment. As irrational and insane as people were, I wouldn't be surprised that our electoral process was intentionally compromised to get Trump out of office! Maybe we will learn that this actually happened in coming years?
