In these Strange Days, it's not a bad idea to have a little set back. Or a lot. I think we all saw empty shelves last year. We didn't go without though. Since I'm a prepper, I stocked up on TP and food and even bought a small freezer for meat when I saw empty shelves in Italy. My wife no longer thinks my prepping mentality is a little wacky, 20 years later. This year is turning out to be the year of systems hacking. Extreme weather events can happen most anywhere at any time preventing travel to a store.
The first thread was based on Water and this second thread on Food Storage and Preservation which I'm providing some related downloads for. Anything involving prepping can be discussed though.

Things seem to be continuing to come apart at the seams at an ever increasing rate.
Could have brought the food outside if need be but protected from critters of course. Maybe in a shed. -15 is deep freezer temps.
I’m hollering.
How do you do it?
I’m always on the lookout for new food preservation ideas.
It tastes the same as any other freeze dried foods. And much better than just dehydrated foods. The reason normal freeze drying has that off taste it because it took so long to Subliminate. You want to do it reasonably quick, like in a couple weeks.
But when you are preparing foods for an extremely long storage life and survival purposes, Taste is not going to be a priority when you do need it. But it really is surprising.

Invest in a sharpie so every package can be dated. Every few months, look for old dates and eat them first.
Section off a chest freezer.
Use the selves in an upright to divide up foods - top shelf chicken and chicken stock, second shelf pork and pork products, third shelf beef, bottom shelf fish and boxed items, door veggies and fruit bags, basket misc and odd shaped packages.
It really doesn’t take but a few minutes to check for old dates and organize. That way you know what to eat first and what you’re short on. Organizing every 4-6 months relieves stress.
Print it out or you’ll lose everything if the internet or power goes out.
Ha! I started counting after the inauguration - had 9 different guys in a week asking me about living in a rural area, food, water, ammo etc.
None of them have gotten out of the city yet, although one (USMC vet) is looking hard. Land price are are out of sight.
That’s more or less what I do, but something always seems to slip by.

Indeed, which is why, after several years of shrinking the garden, we’ve expanded it again. I’ll be canning beans this week, along with sharing some with the neighbors.
The one good thing about all this mess is that it shut down the snarky remarks, such as “Do you think you got enough? “ , from my dh. :)
Canned tomatoes went up from 50 cents to 72 cents. Produce is up, too.
Never let anything go to waste. I made burgers a couple days ago and immediately turned the meat grease into gravy.
Anyone who makes homemade jelly, don’t forget to turn the pulp into fruit butter. Save corn cobs for corn cob jelly. Look around the neighborhood for honeysuckle or cactus fruit, etc. for interesting jellies.
Yep. Same with pantry and fridge. There’s always something.
If y’all can’t immediately eat produce or something in the fridge, take a minute to chop it up and toss into the freezer. Or treat the dog.
We use a big stand up freezer. We made stackable wire racks about an inch deep. I mounted a 12 volt computer fan powered by a plug in power supply to blow the air around inside. Then we place a new bag of kitty litter in the bottom with a bunch of holes punched in it.
Freeze drying is the same as freezer burn. So the kitty litter will absorb the moisture from the air being circulated. But depending on the food type, it will subliminate to freeze dried within 3 weeks, most foods cut thing in 2 weeks.
But the same can be done in smaller batches in smaller freezers also. The key is some kitty litter to help draw the moisture to the surface of the foods to subliminate. The ancient Inca used to freeze dry foods in the high altitudes of the Andes the same way. :)

Funny you should mention that as we just lost electric here. I’ve got the DSL modem/router running off a 12 vdc battery with inverter which also runs some LED lights so we can see to walk around. Laptop will last as long as it lasts but I have others that have some battery. I do have all my prepper stuff printed out.

Any natural unscented cat litter that doesn’t have any added chemical deodorizers or scents. Arm and Hammer makes a good unscented natural litter that only has baking soda and natural ingredients.
