Looking for help from fellow fiber friends.

My sister’s grand daughter wants to sew clothing and wants “Mimi” to show her how. We went to Joann’s to find fabric yesterday but there’s really nothing but 100 percent cotton. Nice for crafts, but ... ironing clothes!

Any suggestions on where to find decent cotton-poly blends for kids’ clothes?

Michael’s, Hobby Lobby?

I usually shop eQuilter.com, but they have mainly quilting materials, so again, all cotton.

I found this spot, though:

Hobby Lobby. Online sources: Denver fabrics, FabricMart, HomeSew and others. One problem is getting into shipping expenses on some of those.

Actually also try WalMart, because they have some surprises there. They have lots of pre-cut, stable knits that are $2-6 for 2-3 yards.

Some thrift (Goodwill?) stores also sell fabrics, and you can watch for fabrics in estate sale/moving sale-type ads.

Another option is finding large garments made of lovely fabrics, at Goodwill/thrift stores, and cutting them at the seams to recycle the fabric.

Try this...

https://www.fabric.com/fiber-content-range/cotton-or-cotton-blends

You might be able to find some discounted and/or inexpensive enough fabric to offset the shipping cost.

Good luck! :-)

Also, she can see pattern reviews here:

https://sewing.patternreview.com/

Click on reviews, and as a nonmember, there are some time limits on seeing the reviews, but can also search by pattern type, manufacturer, number, etc. Inside each review, the sewist provides info about the fabric used, and often lists the source.
