The callsign of the aircraft carrying BidAn this morning to Michagan was ‘SAM46’.
I get the 46, but what does SAM stand for?
When I used to transport prisoners, I was '1 Sam 19'.
The '1' designated my shift (watches 1-3), the 'SAM' designated 'jail transportation unit', and the '19' was just a random number identifier
Funny how I remember that.
A bit of trivia:
California law enforcement uses a different phonetic alphabe than the military. California is based on names. 'Alpha' becomes 'Adam, and so on. (1 Adam 12, for example).
