I notice these amazing drugs all end with “…ine”.
Famitodine
hydroxychloroquine
Clofamizine
Is that a coincidence or are they all derived from a common source?
Notice, too, that all the new “amazing” drugs end in “-umab”.
In general...
“ines” are amines, probably. Taste bitter. Alkaline. Possibly plant source (historical ones) or semisynthetic.
“umabs” are monoclonal antibodies. Newer drugs. Antibodies are secreted and collected from a natural source that has been infected or transfected to produce a particular clone of antibody.
There is an international naming organization that drug companies must work with to name their product, within chemical parameter identifiers and also to minimize look-alike and sound-alike drug mix-ups when filling and dispensing. https://www.ama-assn.org/about/united-states-adopted-names/drug-name-development-timeline
Sorta.
Drugs ending with "ine" are alkaloids. They are bitter tasting and in all cases poisonous, probably a protection for the plants that produces them. All of them contain nitrogen.
