What is likely to happen with the "Still Standing"half of the condo building is probably a no win situation for the owners. The first option is a worst case scenario. The second option is after all the debris is cleared, engineers and inspectors can look for the inevitable wear and tear in the concrete supports. But does this mean they will have to dig out the entire base of the condo, maybe even close to the bedrock? Do you think anyone would want to take part of digging that hole if it comes to that? Maybe some of you out there can contemplate what will happen with the remaining units in the months to come.
The building was being prepared for its 40-year inspection. They could change this to be more frequent than 40 years.

Also there was a known defect with pool leakage. If this defect is related to the collapse, it will be treated more seriously in the future.
There was at least one report that the building made strange noises before the collapse. This should be investigated and may lead to a new triggers for inspection and evacuation.
You folks are jumping the gun...IMHO!!! We do not even have a clue as to why & how this fatal failure occurred. It could have been structural, it could have been a terrorist attack. The fires that are occurring after the collapse cannot be gas fed, because the Fire Department would have shutdown all gas feeds in the damaged building the moment they arrived at the fatal scene. The open borders are letting anyone come into the country unchecked and the Iran/Muslim terrorists might be hitting Israel right here in the USA!!! I think we should wait until our authorities come to a conclusion as to really happened at the doomed building. The Miami Fire Department & Local Law Enforcement, along with Federal government assistance will find out exactly what happened and how it came to pass. Time will reveal what actually happened!!! When that happens, actions can then be taken to correct the actions, be they structural or terrorist driven!!! May God bless & keep all the innocent victims and families impacted by this horrible and evil nightmare!!
I’d cut my losses and get out of there.
Is it worth risking being buried alive or smashed like a pancake in the middle of the night?
You haven’t been paying attention. Opportunistic politicians of both parties will pass something that gives them “market rate” compensation.
The Dems have been looking for something to pin on Gov. deSantis, in an effort to reduce his status.
I hope he is planning on how to respond to various accusations.
“ “ Mike, a political strategist, was on a business trip to Washington when Cassie called him at 1:30 in the morning, frantic that the building had shook. She was on the phone with him when she looked out the window and saw a sinkhole where the swimming pool had been. Then the line went dead.””
Hi.
The attacks on Governor DeSantis are juvenile.
For example:. Governor DeSantis, will you take full responsibility for this horrible incident that happened in Your state?
Governor: well I was only 8 years old when this building was built, but sure. Next question.

Agreed. He still needs to prepare some kind of response that says he is aware of what happened, and is acting to prevent future similar events. It’s all anyone could do.
He should not press the issue that ‘he didn’t authorize’ the construction. A true statement, but then, the press would say he was ducking the issue. Not true, but they will say it anyway.
I’ve read reports that damaged concrete exposed rebar to salty conditions.
Yes this…^^^^…it will be inspected, studied, and then demolished…
It must have. Otherwise, the Vehicle Assembly Building ad Cape Canaveral would have sunk into the soil years ago.
The only solution will be to compile a list of the condo owners by race and ethnicity. Blacks and Hispanics owners are made whole, cut a check for the equity they had in the condo.
Whitey? He’s SOL....screwed. Afterall, it was probably his fault to begin with.
The Kamala/Obama solution that Dementia Joe will sign before his afternoon nap.
A lawsuit was filed against the condo association.
The condo association probably does not have any money.
Freepers are woefully uninformed about south Florida rock
Coconut grove...just south is downtown Miami has rock outcropping
Limestone
It varies in Dade county how deep it is
Miami Limestone (Pleistocene) at surface, covers 92 % of this area
The Miami Limestone (formerly the Miami Oolite), named by Sanford (1909), occurs at or near the surface in southeastern peninsular Florida from Palm Beach County to Dade and Monroe Counties. It forms the Atlantic Coastal Ridge and extends beneath the Everglades where it is commonly covered by thin organic and freshwater sediments. The Miami Limestone occurs on the mainland and in the southern Florida Keys from Big Pine Key to the Marquesas Keys. From Big Pine Key to the mainland, the Miami Limestone is replaced by the Key Largo Limestone. To the north, in Palm Beach County, the Miami Limestone grades laterally northward into the Anastasia Formation. The Miami Limestone consists of two facies, an oolitic facies and a bryozoan facies (Hoffmeister et al. [1967]). The oolitic facies consists of white to orangish gray, poorly to moderately indurated, sandy, oolitic limestone (grainstone) with scattered concentrations of fossils. The bryozoan facies consists of white to orangish gray, poorly to well indurated, sandy, fossiliferous limestone (grainstone and packstone). Beds of quartz sand are also present as unindurated sediments and indurated limey sandstones. Fossils present include mollusks, bryozoans, and corals. Molds and casts of fossils are common. The highly porous and permeable Miami Limestone forms much of the Biscayne Aquifer of the surficial aquifer system.
On average you hit limestone in 3-4 feet after sandy soil
Wow
Someone informed
I’d hug u if I could
By the time the dust settles (pun not intentional) with all the legal actions that will arise from this. The majority of the older owners will have passed on and their heirs will get bupkis.
By the time the investigations are over and the numerous lawsuits are settled how many of the owners will still be alive to care?
That makes more sense than some of the theories.
