I grew up in The Valley of the Sun in Tempe, Arizona (Phoenix). 115 degrees is hot but not unusual for summertime.

Some of these other areas are getting a taste of what we were used to in the summer but calling 115 degrees there a record heat wave is a bit of hyperbole.

I remember walking golf in a record 122 degrees one summer Friday afternoon and not realizing it until I watched the weather report that night. Above 110 degrees, it all seems hot and my golf buddies and I were used to it and didn't notice much difference.

Now granted, all the pussies that moved to Phoenix from back east always thought it was too hot but what did they think the temperature was going to be in the Sonoran Desert of Phoenix in the summertime when they moved there?

I loved that climate and miss it. Especially the dry heat part. I live in Florida in retirement now and the heat here combined with the humidity in the summertime, sucks. It is insufferable.

.....worst drought in 20, and potentially even 1,200 years if it continues.....

1,200 years ??? Ok...let's see the climate records from the year 821. Maybe they meant 120 years ?

The west is not in record draught , even for modern times, much less the last 1200 years.

Depends on where the thermometer was in 1942 compared to where it is today...

Oddly, it has been a remarkably cool spring in the Southeast. Temps have touched 90 a couple of days but mostly we’ve been cooler, with lows in the 50’s a few mornings ago. Not our usual hot and humid June.

It’s been similar to Seattle’s normal weather, at least so far.

So, this high pressure system moved in from the Pacific ocean, and the article says it’s definitely due to global warming... how? from where?

It's likely to get worse, with places in the northwest such as Portland, Oregon...

The sheep that live in this shithole might as well burn up from natural heat as the crazies will burn them out anyway.

It is a shame because I worked for a company that was located in Beaverton, OR {next to Portland} and that area was very beautiful.

I spent a lot of time in Portland and while there were a few crazies mostly everyone was civil and it was a great destination.

Too many volvo owners and latte drinkers turned the area from business to whatever the hell it is now.

And obviously, we need a climate lock down to deal with this existential threat. Everyone, stay home and leave your refrigerator doors open!

Imagine how the snowflakes would handle a dust bowl situation today.

Move back.

But you are right about Florida in the summer.

I've vacationed in Florida in December, January and February, but if you have to go there in the summer the humidity is murder.

I have friends and relatives in Florida, but other than a wedding or funeral, I avoid summer visits.

Didn’t realize the 1930s and the dust bowl et al were over 1200 years ago. Well now I know, but the way I apply math to dates has to change a little.

1,200 years? But, but, but I thought last year was the worst drought on record. Or was it 20 years ago? Maybe it will be next year. Perhaps I will go to a toy store and buy a model so I know for sure.

Yes, and here in the southern Puget Sound region, we’re expecting three days of 100+ temperatures Sat-Sun-Mon. Rare, but not unheard of. We’ve had quite a pile of rain so far this year, so we aren’t burning up like areas south of us.

What caused the draught and heat 1,200 years ago?

Were people driving cars back then? Or were the chariots pulled by dozens of emission farting cows?
