Trump: 'I have not conceded' 2020 loss; might have 'different president' now if not for Pence choice
On the possibility of being reinstated as president if the 2020 contest is verified as fraudulent, Trump said such a decision would be "up to public" or "perhaps politicians."
Former President Donald Trump said Monday that he has not conceded the 2020 presidential race, that if the election is proven fraudulent it will be up to the public and "perhaps politicians" to decide how to respond, and that if Mike Pence had sent disputed election results back to state legislatures for review the country "might very well have a different president right now."
"No, I never admitted defeat," Trump told Just the News' "Water Cooler" in an exclusive interview on Real America's Voice.
"We have a lot of things happening right now ... all you have to do is read the newspapers and see what's coming out now," he said, adding that he has "not conceded."

That I did not know. It was why Trump was optimistic during the speeches. Saying if pence did what he was supposed to do then it would be fine, if not then he would not like pence so much.
State legislatures from five states wanted a 10 day pause from Pence so they could review the legality of the certification (long letters). (Sen. Cruz also requested a ten day review) -- Remember, Jan 6 is a date set by Congress, not the Constitution.
Pence, without the authority to do so, said no.
Pence also stopped any objections to a count when congress reconvened after the "insurrection". He essentially broke the law ---needless to add without authority.
Legislators from five states asked Pence for 10 days to review the legality of the certification .... you know, the ones the Constiution gives sole authority to. This was doable since Jan 6 is an arbitrary date set by Congress, not the Constitution.
I don't know what or who gave Pence the authority, but he denied the requests from the state legislators.
He also stopped all objections when Congress reconvened after the "insurrection". Again, the authority to do this remains a mystery.
Maybe that was the states that they changed the voting laws in. The states by passed the state legislature which by constitution is the only ones that can change the laws. They should not have been able to certify it legally. Guess that’s what they wanted pence to look at.
Actually, the "strategy" was the Constitutional remedy.---Send objections, whether from Congress or state legislators, back to the state legislatures for review and re-certification.
Pence assumed authority he didn't have twice: Once when he refused such a request from legislators from five states and again when he shut down Congressional objections, after the "insurrection".
No one was asking Pence to do anything other than his damn job as expected under the Constitution and by Congressional law.
The 20th amendment to the Constitution specifies that the term of each elected President of the United States begins at noon on January 20 of the year following the election
The letter to Pence from the representatives of five states cited possible fraud (itemized). They requested only that Pence carve out 10 days so they could do a review of the legality of the certification.
Pence wasn't asked to do anything else ... he wasn't asked to look at anything or make any kind of determination.
Makes more sense of the riot starting within the first few states called.
So these representatives were making the request on behalf of their states? In other words, they were making the request with the authority to act on behalf of their states?
Time was an issue. But Rudy should not have been standing out there with S. Powell making the case that she did. It compromised his credibility on their legal strategy, and made them look incompetent.
he was a consequential President...and in ways that previous republicans gave lip service to (ie, regulation push back) but never did anything...
and, strangely with a massive assist from mcconnell, on judges
you are quite right.
he mostly went at it completely alone...yet, he accomplished much
(which is why he was overwhelmingly re-elected....jus sayin’...)
“But Trump did not have an easy job.”
Good post.
Reading through a lol the posts - yours comes the closest to my sentiments on the subject of the backstabbers that Trump picked.
I’ll just add one thing to what you said: the DC swamp is huge, and has been festering fir a long time. Not just festering, building, evolving, growing, consolidating power.
There are 20 million people employed at all levels of government - these are the people who hold the reins of power - and very few of them want to let go.
Everyone wants to keep their job - even if most of us would stop short of doing something evil to keep our jobs - there are many of us who are tempted into rationalizing that something is for the good when it’s not - because we want to keep our jobs and yet feel we are a good people.
Lobbyists think they are good people even though they are basically bribing politicians for a living. The politicians getting bribed think they are good people. People become twisted after working for the government too long.
Think about the purpose of the Constitution: to limit the power, scope and size of government. That’s what the Founders designed it to do.
So when you think about it, the > 20 million in government who hold all the power are basically in an adversarial relationship with the Constitution. They ARE the oversized government that the Constitution was supposed to limit.
The bottom line is that almost every one of these 20 million who hold the reins of power, whether they know it or not, whether they would admit it or not - deep in their hearts - they actually need the Constitution to fail - because if it were enforced, they would be out of a job - and out of power - and in many cases put in jail.
THAT is what President Trump was up against - nothing less.
bump

spot on
everything about the Constitution as written, and the spirit of capitalism, is at war with the ever-expanding bureaucracy and government power.....
sadly, most of humanity wants security not freedom....and doesn’t realize the connection between security and servitude
A government “work force” of 20 million is not going to be overcome....not even by Trump, as magnificent as he was
thanks for the ping, and great post by you, as well
Yes, I might not have barked so loudly.
I just think the battles ahead will be far more difficult than those we lost in 2020.
Happy hoping and wishful wondering won’t get it done.
It will be war, and right now they hold all the key positions.
He could have picked Ben Carson. But I don't see how they would have won without one political figure on the ticket. A ticket of TWO political outsiders has a lot of risk in a political process.
Pence also had an advantage in that he wasn't a presidential contender in 2016 -- so he had been very much detached from the chaotic GOP primary process.
ditto what you said
It's sad that so many here cannot read the law or understand how it works.
Of course - if Trump had won - we would be about $35 Trillion in debt by now and the GOP would be sure to raise the debt ceiling (and everyone knows it!)
Where does the Constitution say that?
