FWIW: Due to the unprecedented speed at which this new Federal Holiday has been implemented, the US Stock Markets, in an equally unusual move, have decided to remain open for usual business. Amongst other concerns is the fact that 18 June is a major 'options closing' day that would be otherwise severely disrupting to those markets.

Anybody else think that this new Federal Holiday serves to rub it in that our government workers now are even more compensated and awarded than ever before? Gone, even further, into the dustbin of history is the old 'civil contract' where the accepted differentiation was that government workers got guaranteed jobs, good holiday & vacations and retirements while marketplace workers got good advancement OPPORTUNITIES & PAY for MERIT, risks for unemployment and uncertain retirements! When was the last time that a Civil Service employee was fired for cause, hmmm?

Yesterday morning, the early news on WBAP stated Juneteenth commemorated the day the UNION SOLDIERS ORDERED Texas slave owners to free their slaves.

My whole life, Juneteenth was the day news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached Texas.

How’s THAT for changing history.

Course, it was the news person who can’t ALWAY pronounce TEXAS correctly. (I don’t know why she has a job if she can’t pronounce TEXAS correctly.)

Historians say that Rome eventually fell, as they had SO MANY holidays, reasons to not work. For the Japanese we need to e’remember the day the Atomic Bomb was dropped, and for the Mexicans, March 6th, 1837 the Alamo, and the Native Americans, Custers Last Stand..., and for those WRITE people who got slaughtered by Cheyennes on the Oregon Trail, and make a holiday to remember that FDR, never received any refugees fleeing Spain in 1938..he nailed the doors shut in NYC and sent to Laredo to cross into Mexico. There is a LOT of sad, very unfortunate things that happened to every race. Don’t forget the Irish, and the poor Vietnamese soldiers who stood with us... many ended up and formed their ghettos of Hmongs...so what is the point of this?
