I’ve been following the conversation(s) - probably a few others are following also.
I now understand about no posting the PMs.
Youngest of 10? whoa...
3 Marines in one family ?...
I had a spiritual adviser that never took my side on anything - even when I was right. Drove me nutz.
His response was ...you want to be right? or do you want to be happy?
He would then relate an incident in his life where he chose one path over another and where it turned out well or not so well.
He passed on and I miss him a lot. I found a new spiritual advisor and he is cut from the same mold.
The point? do I want to be right or do I want to be happy?

Sounds like a great advisor. I was a supervisor in a clean room mfg. plant for 35 years. My saying was very similar.
Do you want to be right, or do you want to be successful. Every time I was in a situation that needed some empathy, or encouragement, I would come back to that philosophy. It served me well.
Currently Do you want to be right or do you want to be happy would be more appropriate for me. I just can’t sit back and go along to get along anymore. I’m not going to start any fights, but I won’t run from them either. So, to make myself happy, I have to fight back. I hope others can understand.
My boss always says when you have the choice of being right or being kind, choose kindness.
