I wouldn’t imagine they spent that much time in the cave except for nighttime or in the dead of winter. Like early frontier homes that didn’t have windows and were just for sleeping and staying dry.
As a kid touring some gold rush town in Wyoming or Colorado, guide pointed out two cave systems. One was cool year round and the other very warm-hot. He said the labourers would alternate living in the caves depending on the season. I wonder if some of the caves inhabited by “cavemen and birther folk” were warmer back in the ice age than they are today.
