"I did learn a mean blind stitch in 4-H."
I learned to sew, knit (which I no longer do; prefer crochet, now) set a table and basic cooking skills in 4-H. I wanted to raise a dairy cow, but not practical in 'The Burbs.' Amazingly, I DID win a few ribbons at our County Fair for sewn projects. Never the elusive Blue Ribbon, though. Had to wait until I hit age 60 for that; won The Blue for a crocheted afghan, mainly because I was the only entry in the 'Senior' Division, which pained me greatly, LOL!
Since Beau is a Future Farmers of America (FFA) alum, we've got it covered. ;)
My Mother sews beautifully; has done costuming for local and national theater, wedding dresses, christening gowns, pieces using REAL fur; if it's complicated, she loves it all the more! She was widowed a few years back, and her BFF moved into the house with her. They each have their own bedrooms, but they share a big Sewing Room. I can sew a straight line and that's about it. My Sister eschews ALL Fiber Arts. Luckily, Mom finds other things about us to appreciate. ;)

My grandmother was quite skilled but my mother never picked up the talent. My mother-in-law was a professional seamstress (she passed away shortly before we married) and her daughter, my sister-in-law is equally skilled. She sews wonderfully cute outfits for her four-and-counting granddaughers and enjoys it because her four children were all boys. She is my go-to for sewing challenges and she has sewed me a cushion for a family heirloom cedar chest and a fabric photo album cover featuring one of my cross-stitch projects which is now a family heirloom.
