I’ve read how excess iron in the blood is very bad and that donating blood is thought to be helpful for keeping iron levels in the good range, especially for men.

This could be another reason why too much iron in the blood is bad and why many probably don’t need a daily vitamin pill with added iron.

My mother-in-law has that problem. She donates blood every month just to keep down the iron...................

If you eat chocolste or meat, I suggest you donate blood once every two years. I think that’s unlikely to cause a deficiency.

If you get a blood test for iron stores, you will know more precisely how much you can reduce iron without causing a deficiency.

Groups at higher risk of getting severe covid have higher amount of iron stores.
