A Florida man is accused of dragging the body of a pedestrian he allegedly struck with his car on Sunday before fleeing the scene and dumping most of the remains behind a local bait shop, according to authorities.

Joseph Charles Strickland, 28, of Weeki Wachee, was traveling on a road north of Tampa early Sunday when his car struck the unidentified pedestrian, 32, who was walking along the roadway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

After the hit-and-run accident, they said the suspect traveled with the victim's remains to the back of the Dixie Lee Bait shop in Spring Hill. Strickland removed the remains from his vehicle and called his roommates to help him push the car back to his home, telling them he hit a deer, according to FHP.

Once he arrived home, he allegedly spray-painted over the damage, showered and slept, FOX 13 of Tampa Bay reported.

The next morning, Strickland’s roommate examined the vehicle and contacted law enforcement because he didn’t believe the car hit a deer, according to authorities. Around the same time, a human leg was spotted on the side of the road, near where the incident occurred, FHP said.

Using a cadaver dog, authorities found the rest of the body behind the bait shop. Troopers also went to Strickland’s home and found the vehicle.

The suspect attempted to flee, but deputies from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office captured him, FHP said.

DUI, Vehicular homicide, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Obstruction of Justice and I’m sure a whole host of other charges for treatment of a dead body. Two lives were lost, one was innocent. The other not.

He probably been drinking and couldn’t hang out for the cops. Or maybe it’ll turn out the suspect knew the pedestrian and he put the fix on him. Forfeiting a good portion of your life for a hit and run don’t make a lot of sense, and usually means the suspect had good reason not to stop, call paramedics, cops etc..

So many questions here, but why did he need help to push his vehicle home? Why take the body anywhere? never heard of hit and run?

And often a pedestrian or parts of them will be thrown through the windshield...Many cases where the driver and or occupants of vehicles have been killed or injured from flying bodies or parts of bodies.

The decedent's remains were found behind Dixie Lee Bait shop. It was determined that his first name was 'Chum'.

*ducks and runs*

I was wondering just how much of the body the police were able to recover - after the bait shop got through with him.

"In a related story, local fishermen report that they've been landing record catches since switching to new "tasty-treat" fish bait..."

So, no open-casket funeral?

Well, it says they discovered the victim’s leg near the scene of the accident and he dragged the rest of the guy all the way to the bait shop, so it must have been one helluva impact. I think closed casket would be apropos.
