Regarding your canning, are you having any luck finding lids? I can find jars with lids and bands but no lids alone. I am checking the Mennonite store that usually has big sleeves of them as well as hardware and farm supply and Walmart. I am starting to think that lid production is going to the cases of jars instead of boxes of lids.
I ordered a dozen Tattler reusable lids to tey and see how I liked them. I’m in central Missouri, near Boonville.
Hubby found some lids early this summer. I still have a fair sized stash from end of year sales from a few years back. At one time, there were no jars here either.
I had a case of each size jars stashed from last year too, and hubby happened to run across some when he was on the job in another county, and bought several cases.
So I’m using the stash, and putting the lids from the new jars in a ziplock bag with the date to use later on this year. I do actually have some off brand lids-which I bought as a just in case there aren’t any from anywhere-ordered them on Amazon-probably made in china-ugh.
I’ve even got some lids that I used before that didn’t have discernable dents that I stashed just in case all else fails.
I read somewhere that Walmart stores are prioritizing the urban areas, if they don’t have quite enough stuff. Lids are not the only thing that we have trouble finding.
And a lot of the stuff I used to order on - line is now out of stock on-line, and often only available for pickup at stores located in contiguous counties.
We have a hardware/farm store that sometimes has some canning supplies when no one else does, but even they were out. I have been thinking about trying out the tattlers. Watched a couple of videos.
Please let me know if you like the reusable ones.
