Celebrity Cruises will not ask for proof of vaccine in Florida, but there will be different rules for those passengers

Ever since Celebrity Cruises announced restart plans for cruises from the United States, the big question has been how will the cruise line get around Florida's vaccine passport ban.

Florida passed a law that prohibits any business from asking anyone to provide proof of a Covid-19 vaccine.

Under Florida law, it is impermissible for any business operating in Florida to require patrons or customers to provide documentation certifying Covid-19 vaccination or post-infection recovery “to gain access to, entry upon, or services from” the business.

The new Florida law goes into effect on July 1, and carries with up to a $5,000 fine per violation.

Celebrity Cruises told travel agents on a webinar on Tuesday that they will not require passengers to show proof of vaccination, but someone that prefers or opts out of showing proof will be held to a different set of protocols onboard, as well as additional costs to incur to confirm they are healthy.

During a webinar with travel agents, Dondra Ritzenthaler, Celebrity Cruises Senior Vice President of Sales and Trade Support & Service, informed travel agents of their plan for U.S. cruises so they can sail and comply with Florida's laws.

Celebrity still intends to sail with at least 95% vaccinated guests, but it will optional to show proof of being vaccinated or not.

Celebrity requires its passengers from the United States who are age 16 and above to be fully vaccinated. As of August 1, 2021, all guests age 12 and older must be fully vaccinated.

"Florida is a little bit different," Ms. Ritzenthaler explained. "We will still go out with 100 percent of our crew and 95 percent of our guest vaccinated."

"In Florida, we will not require you to have to show proof of vaccination, because we are doing this exactly the right way, but we will go out with 95% of our guests still vaccinated."

If you choose not to show proof of vaccination, then there are additional steps required to fulfill in order to sail.

According to Celebrity, guests who do not show proof of vaccination will be considered unvaccinated and will require a SARS-COV-2 test at the terminal at their own expense.

Guests that do not meet the requirements will be denied boarding. Unvaccinated passengers may be also be restricted in certain ports, depending on the local laws.

"Guests who do not provide documentation of full vaccination will be considered unvaccinated and will require a Covid test at the terminal at their own expense. Guests that do not meet the requirements will be denied boarding."

What was not made clear during the webinar is how exactly Celebrity will ensure a 95% vaccinated minimum of guests onboard, if they are not certain how many guests will not provide proof of vaccination at check-in.

This question came up again, and Ms. Ritzenthaler assured travel agents they would stop selling certain room categories depending on vaccine status.

"Our President and CEO, Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, right before this call said, Dondra, you reassure every travel adviser on this call that we will sail with 95 percent of our guests vaccinated. Guys, the way we're going to do that is we're going to manage the sailing, right?

"We're going to make sure that we open some cabin categories. We closed some cabin categories. We are going to make sure that 95 percent of our guests are vaccinated. That is on us, not you. But you know, you can trust me. You can trust this brand. We will go out at ninety five percent vaccinated on our ships."

Protocols onboard

Masks will not be required for vaccinated guests and children 15 and younger.

Unvaccinated adult guests are required to wear a mask at all times, except while eating or drinking or in their stateroom.

Shore excursions

Guests are not restricted to cruise line excursions, although unvaccinated guests may face restrictions based on local laws.

Returning home

On cruises longer than 4 nights from the United States, unvaccinated guests will be required to take a SARS-CoV-2 test prior to disembarkation, which will be at their own expense.

The disembarkation test will be administered by Celebrity at no cost for children or other persons unable to be vaccinated.

CDC guideline clearly state that if 95% of passengers are vaccinated, no one has to wear masks.

At this point, Covid seems to be more about politics than science. Maybe it always was.

Unvaccinated adult guests are required to wear a mask at all times, except while eating or drinking or in their stateroom.

Why would anyone not vaccinated go on this cruise?

I wonder how many people who “tested positive” got that verdict from a false positive. The extremely high number of amplification cycles permitted in PCR tests led to many false positives. Of course, a person does not get antibodies or immunity with a false positive. Are these a big proportion of people getting Covid twice?

Enjoy your cruises. I do not plan to get on an airplane either I don’t think they’ll let me because I don’t have a “vaccination”. I will watch all this from afar.

“ Why would anyone not vaccinated go on this cruise?”

Exactly. I wouldn’t. And I have been on many cruises.

200,000,000 Americans on schedule to be vaccinated by end of July 2021. I have not heard of 1 million Americans in serious problem from the vaccines. That would mean at least 99.5% MINIMUM safety record of these mRNA based vaccines.

I bet other drugs or vaccines would be bragging if they had such good safety numbers. Keeping in mind no medical procedure is 100% safe, not even the lowly Aspirin, and risk of surgical procedures in hospitals are much higher than 0.5%. Yet people are not afraid of going under the knife anywhere near the number they are afraid of this vaccine. I wonder if public school unions have succeeded in dumbing down Americans.

The cruise I am booked on in September is already FULLY SOLD out and it is a large ship with 4000+ passengers. There is no shortage of cruise hungry Americans. 200,000,000 Americans are on schedule to be vaccinated by end of July 2021. That is almost 3 times Biden’s votes (even counting fake votes) in 2020.

I read it.

I have free-range, organic, all natural antibodies. They are at least, and according to recent research, if not MORE effective than vaccine immunity.

However, there are additional risks for people who have already had Covid and then get vaccinated.

Risks I do not care to take.

For cruise ships or other entities to focus only on those who are vaccinated vs those who have already had Covid is the opposite of “following the science”.

I believe you entirely. Best way to build immunity is to get a mild exposure to any virus. That is how I survived growing up in India which has plenty of viruses going around.

However when they are boarding 3000-4000 passengers in 3 hours on a cruise ship, there is not enough time to test every passenger. A vaccine document is much faster to process.

So yes, you may not need the vaccine. But you might miss out on participating in some activities.

“...there is not enough time to test every passenger. A vaccine document is much faster to process.”

So is a document saying that I had Covid.

Can you get an official document from an accredited hospital certifying you had covid and recovered from it?

If I was running the cruise company, I would accept it.

For cruise ships or other entities to focus only on those who are vaccinated vs those who have already had Covid is the opposite of “following the science”.

Two disagreements on your statement. The cruise lines aren't focusing only on the vaccinated, the CDC is. They issue the certificates allowing the lines to sail from the US, and it "suggests" 95% vaccinated. The "following the science" problem rests with the CDC. And the underlying problem there likely rests with the unreliability of the tests. At the very least you'd have to equate a vaccination with a positive covid antibodies test. Which makes sense to me. Would you tell me I'm crazy if I suggested perhaps every positive covid test would not result in a positive antibody test? Nor might tests of covid deaths if they'd done them rather than rely on symptoms. If we still had investigative reporters in this country there's a story there. And I'm not blaming hospitals who labeled covid as a contributor to death, impacting compensation. Or the relative inaccuracy of testing. And if covid is like other communicable diseases, mild cases might not trigger an antibody test unless the standards are set low. But clearly I agree with you, a positive antibody test should be the same as vaccination but might expose other things.

Note my post 96. It's not up to the cruise lines rather the CDC who makes the rules that some posters say the lines can ignore. As smart as not paying income tax on constitutional grounds.

I know you've been following this controversy. The Florida vs CDC, I think Texas joined, after failed arbritation is being heard today. My guess, I don't think either DeSantis or Abbott are stupid or anti-business, regardless of which way the verdict goes the lines have unofficial agreements with both governors. Obviously not to be discussed prior to the judge's decision. I'd speculate that some level of required vaccination, which means disclosure, will be in the deal if the CDC loses.

"CDC guideline clearly state that if 95% of passengers are vaccinated, no one has to wear masks."

And masks do nothing to protect against CCP virus. Even Dr. Fraudci admitted this in his emails.

Weren't the liberals trying to destroy the cruise industry before the bio weapon attack?

I'd say mission accomplished.

Stock holders should sue everyone pushing flat out lies, that most certainly will end this cruise line.

Who is going to pay hard earned money for restriction this... and restriction that... and all for lies.

No thanks.

I will continue with my prayers for Nuremberg trials, and that the truth of what really happened with CCP virus, and who all was involved in it, is finally revealed to the entire world.

Give me a break. You weren’t going to convince me of anything from the beginning and even less now. Let’s say we talk in 2 years and see how it’s going, ok? Thanks.
