It is so nice to be able to discuss something with someone who holds different opinions without getting into a shouting match. That is certainly one benefit to hanging out with a conservative crowd. My younger brother is a leftist-extremist, and resorts to cussing and insults right away.

Agreed. The fact is, discussing issues with people whom you disagree, but in a civil and respectful way is when each party learns more about the subject; much more so than when discussing with people whom you agree, since they believe the same thing how do either learn anything? So, yes I agree with your sentiment on this.
