On the Frigate I reported to in the 90s we had a cold snap about 10 miles off the Philippines and a whole flock of birds - finches, I think - decided it was nice and warm up by the radars. Roasted them all. Signalmen had all they could do trying to keep the deck cleared of carcasses.
The big birds aren’t immune, either. I was in the right place, at the right
time to see a pelican drop and end in a dead bounce upon flying through
the beam about 20 yards from the 200 mile radar antenna. I learned it was
something to watch out for when visiting the radar maintenance crew to
borrow equipment.
One doesn’t need injected nano particles to be cooked by RF, but it might
be possible to design a beam that would only “cook” someone with the
right nano-particles in them…
