I seem to remember hearing about a plane crash test in the 80’s that was delayed and then had additional costs incurred because of under-representation of minorities (apparently the crash test dummies at first were all white...).
Someone complained, so NASA and the FAA got some appropriately pigmented dummies and put them in the open seats in the back of the plane....
Whups.
Additional time and effort was spent to insure that the dummies were properly mixed as to coloration.
Test was flown, aircraft went up in a ball of flames.

I guess they didn’t account for gender, although pictures show a baby-sized dummy aboard.
