Tennis star Naomi Osaka said Monday she is withdrawing from the French Open after refusing to speak to the media at the grand slam.
The four-time major winner posted a statement on Twitter saying she was pulling out so that "everyone can get back to focusing on the tennis going on in Paris," adding that she would "take some time away from the court." Osaka revealed she had "suffered long bouts of depression" since winning her first Grand Slam title in 2018.
Last Wednesday, citing mental health reasons, Osaka posted on social media she would not participate in any news conferences during the French Open, hoping that any fines she incurred would go toward a mental health charity.
Following her straight set victory on Sunday, Osaka was fined $15,000 for not talking to the media, Roland Garros announced in a statement.

She renounced her American citizenship. Let’s move on to a new topic.
If she can't take the heat get off the court.
She has been professionally active for at least the last four years. She could probably use two or three years away from that pace. It’s for the best that she leave the competition,
otherwise, her self centered, uncooperative behavior will inspire others to do the same. Leave now, before you get put out officially.
Piers morgan said she is working from the neghan markle playbook
I think she actually does suffer from OVERWHELMING anxiety and depression. That can be more than some sufferers can deal with. I’ve known people like this.
I don’t predict that Naomi will make a ton of money in product endorsements. She normally has one expression on her face at any given time: Glum/ detached/ bored.

The occupation of “professional athlete” exists because they are entertainers and marketing spokespeople. Ms. Osaka seems to believe she has enough juice to buck the system. It remains to be seen how it will turn out.

Been getting a lot of “why are they placing her body like that in those ads?” Well, I direct the ads. I place myself like that. And it’s because of the thousands of unwelcome comments I receive about my body. You’ve lost the privilege of looking at it until I feel safe again.”
“I am not consenting to any of this,” Vayntrub said
Apparently she thinks people calling her sexy, cute, beautiful and commenting on her hair style is ‘sexual harassment
Sorry. I searched before I posted.
You’ve lost the privilege of looking at it until I feel safe again.”
Osaka is not playing with a full deck.
What do the comments of “Milana Vayntrub” have to do with Naomi Osaka?
I need to see these ads she’s talking about...
Tennis is very competitive. Leaving the game almost always guarantees a return will not be very successful.
She didn’t want to see more of those $15,000 fines. Expecting she would, she just bailed.
Not sure about the comments from the girl that plays Lilly on the AT&T commercials. Would like to know the context of how it relates to this tennis player.
That didn’t make any sense to me. Also, I make a point of not watching commercials.
Sounds like a typical lefty. Hope she goes the way of colin karpernik
Bob434 posted a tweet from mintmilana who is Milana Vayntrub, who is the actress that plays Lilly on those AT&T commercials. I looked up her Twitter to find out where Bob 434 got that but apparently she deleted it? Still not sure the context as the way she writes it is seems like she’s an advertising director or something when she’s just an actress doing commercials and crappy film s
That can be more than some sufferers can deal with.
I’ve known people like this.
True enough.
Anthony Bourdain didn't kill himself over a bad clam.
Well, bye!
