To me, the ultimate Memorial Day movie is “Taking Chance” with Kevin Bacon portraying LTC Michael Strobl, a Marine who is escorting a PFC on his last journey home.
In his After Action Report, LTC Strobl wrote about the reactions of the people he came into contact with during his escort duties. The respect and honor shown by people who didn’t even know Chance Phelps was both touching and heartbreaking.
His report ended up being printed numerous times, and was made into a movie by HBO.
No politics, no histrionics, just a story of a fallen Marine’s final journey from Dover AFB to Dubois, Wyoming and the support and respect that was shown.
Watch it, you will not regret it.

Thanks, for posting this PC.
Didn’t make it all the way through this short cut without some tears. Not sure I’m ready yet for the whole movie.
“Taking Chance” looks excellent! It’s now in my queue. ThankQ!
Good recommendation. I had the pleasure to meet and work with Strobl. Solid guy. Excellent movie.
Watched it.
😢
..........
That really hit home, powerful
I happened to watch one that popped up right after that called Mortuary Skit. It is about 2 Soldiers given the responsibility of notifying the family and the families responce. It was hard to watch, living thru what they had to experience, but a real reality check. I recommend it.
I had a hard time watching that movie. ‘Taking Chance’ hits home on a number of levels.
Okay, hubby and I watched the whole movie “Taking Chance” with Kevin Bacon and loved it. ThankQ for a wonderful recommendation fo Memorial Day.
I learned so much about the process of getting our fallen heroes back home to their families.
